There is always a certain amount of research involved for every picture that I do. The reason for this is that I try to include a story of what the artwork is about or a brief history of the subject. The stories are just as important as the artwork, because in native culture, traditionally we pass on legends and history of ourselves through the tradition of storytelling.

Wolf The Wolf is one of the three Mohawk Clans. If you are a member of the Wolf Clan, it is said that you are honest and straightforward. Wolf members are known to be determined hard workers. They also react instantly to life. Wolf members enjoy singing traditional songs and practising sacred beliefs and rituals. |

Peace The Eagle and Dove are pictured here to symbolize peace over the land. Often, the Eagle is shown sitting atop the Tree of Peace. The Eagles ability to see over great distance and their piercing cry allow them to warn people of danger. |

Canada Goose The Goose plays an important role in the Creation Story of the Iroquois People. It is told that the geese made a vee shaped formation to carry the first woman to the Earth. The geese still fly in this formation to honour her. |

Mother Bear and Cub The Bear is one of three clans of the Mohawk People. If you are a member of the Bear Clan, you are thought to be a good natured person who can take a good deal of teasing. But you have your limits, and after that -watch out! Bears are also natural healers in the community. They love small animals and children. |

Thirty Six Dolphins Most cultures believe that dolphins originated from a group of people who were magically transformed. Occasionally, dolphins will temporarily change back to human form. Dolphins are known the world over as gentle, helpful beings with spirited personalities. They are also known as playful "show offs" that are highly intelligent. Dolphins are regarded as sacred beings that are equal to humans. |

Lacrosse The game of Lacrosse is one of the many gifts the Ongwehonweh (The Original People) have given to the world. The game is steeped in rituals, traditions and history. More than a sport, Lacrosse was played to settle disputes, relieve tension, and to build strength and unity. |

Study of Creation Turtle in Sea This picture depicts the Turtle from the Creation Story. According to the legend, the very first woman planted seeds from the sky world and danced on the turtles shell until the turtle grew to the size of Turtle Island. Which we now know as North America. The painting was originally intended for a larger work. Hence the absence of other elements from the story. |

Turtle Dive This picture is meant to depict the Great Turtle in the sea before the formation of Turtle Island. It is the time before the Sky Woman was brought to the back of the Great Turtle by the Geese. It is the time before the beginning of time, when the world was a globe of water. There was no pollution. The World was pure and simple and peaceful. |

Five Nations While "Five Nations" is the title of the painting, the wampum belt depicted here is known as the "Hiawatha Belt". This wampum belt is an official historical document of the Iroquois. Wampum belts record important political, social and religious events. This belt represents the roots of peace, democracy, forgiveness, understanding and unity. |
